Our last performance results dispatch was on SPC block storage performance from a drive level perspective. In this report we return to NAS system performance using SPEC SFS97_R1* NFS V3 results. We continue to report on SFS97 results in contrast to using the newer SFS2008 results due to the paucity of the SFS2008 results released to date (so far only four benchmark results have been posted for NFS).
Latest SFS97_R1 NFS V3 results
Since our last report there have been a number of significant benchmark results released, namely BlueArcs new Titan 3200, NetApp 6080A and NetApp FAS3170. Figure 1 reports on the top 10 SpecSFS ops benchmark results.
As can be seen by the chart both BlueArc Titan 3100 and NetApp 6080A broke into the top 10 in SpecSFS ops throughput. What is significant about the BlueArc result is that they did this with a single node, more on this below. The top 10 normalized performance results also changed for this report. BlueArc’s latest Titan 3200 doubled their previous result on this chart and now BlueArc takes the top 8 positions with the current and the previous two generations of their product line. As is well known in the industry BlueArc’s performance uses special purpose hardware and as can be seen by this chart they continue to ratchet up their hardware performance every generation.
Finally, the top 10 ORT results also changed this quarter and is show below. NetApp’s FAS3170 just broke into the top 10 list with their 0.94msec. ORT result. (See Figure 3.)
